Finance Minister Colm Imbert continues to defend the Property Tax, saying it is needed to provide revenue for T&T.
Today, Mr Imbert kicked off debate on amendments to the Property Tax Bill, which includes a reduction in the tax rate from 3% to 2%, among other things.
He pointed to a need for revenue mobilization.
Despite his reasoning however, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar believes the tax should have instead been repealed.
She also accused the Government of giving her side little time to prepare for the debate, and questioned the reason for this.
The Opposition Leader adds that she has been fighting the tax for the last 15 years and will continue to do so.
