Cybercriminals target “Barbie” fans

Cybercriminals are trying to cash in on the “Barbie” hype.

According to McAfee, an online protection company, there have been a surge of online scams targeting Barbie lovers, such as fake dubbed versions of the movie that install viruses and Barbie-themed malware.

There are also YouTube videos that have shady links in their descriptions – these links pretend to be download links for the movie, but actually download a file that contains malware.

Searching for “Barbie” related items online exposes users to a higher risk of falling for these traps.

According to a report by the Indian Express, India ranks among the top countries affected by these scams, with US far ahead at #1.

“Barbie” raked in $337 million worldwide in its opening weekend.
