Cricket West Indies will appeal a court ruling relating to the election of Vice President Azim Bassarath.
Filed by the Guyana Cricket Board in the High Court of Guyana, the case challenged Mr Bassarath’s election to the post.
CWI, Mr Bassarath, and Returning Officer Gregory Nicholls were named as Respondents – they argued that the Court was without jurisdiction since disputes of this nature should be resolved through arbitration.
The Court however decided it had jurisdiction and this morning ruled in favour of the GCB.
CWI says it has instructed its legal team to immediately file an appeal and will await the decision of the appellate Court.
Mr Bassarath was elected CWI Vice President at the 24th Annual General Meeting in Antigua on March 25th 2023.
He was unopposed and gained six votes, with two voting against, and four abstentions.
