Criminologist suggests crime prevention measures to be included in budget

A criminologist has highlighted crime prevention measures he believes should be included in the 2024 budget.

103.1FM News spoke to Dr Randy Seepersad who said while crime suppression is important, preventative measures are also needed.

One such measure, he noted, is Project Building Blocks which was geared towards encouraging community action in addressing crime.

Dr Seepersad also believes a multi-stakeholder approach is required, and that it should not be the job of only one Ministry to address crime.

Dr Seepersad said the government should utilize funding from international aid agencies for crime prevention programmes, as is being done in other Caribbean countries.
