An advisory has been issued by the Office of the Assistant Conservator of Forests, Department of Natural Resources and Forestry.
It was issued due to the spate of cow itch problems experienced in each Fire Season, which runs from December 1st to June 30th.
The advisory gives the following suggestions:
- Cow Itch vines can be controlled by constantly monitoring and diligently removing the species during the Wet (rainy) Season rather than in the Dry Season or the Fire Season
- Seedlings and vines should be continually cleared during the Wet Season before maturity and fruiting
- A broadleaf herbicide such as Roundup can be used to spray onto Cow Itch
- Prevent the furtherance of dispersal of Cow Itch by avoiding the removal of soil from areas infested with Cow Itch to other areas
