Councillor for Siparia West/Fyzabad, Jason Ali, has resigned from the UNC.

According to reports, he handed in a two-page resignation letter dated August 15th, in which he alleged that issues such as corruption and serious allegations of human trafficking and other crimes had been swept under the rug.

He also claimed that he was being victimised since he contested a post for the slate led by Mayaro MP Rushton Paray in the recent UNC internal elections.

According to a report by the T&T Express, Mr Ali admitted that while he had no actual evidence for the allegations of corruption and human trafficking, attempts to meet with officials from the hierarchy were ignored.

The report also quoted UNC Chairman Dave Tancoo as saying that he intends to pass Mr Ali’s letter to the police.
