Cellphones, cigarettes and other contraband have been seized at the Port of Spain prison.

Between 7am and 1:15pm yesterday, multiple prison cells were searched during a joint exercise at the facility.

Among the items seized were: 51 cellphones, 30 cellphone chargers, 53 lighters, and 207 grams of marijuana.

Officers also found improvised weapons, knives, digital scales, earbuds, wrapping paper, and cigarettes.

This exercise follows a similar one conducted last Friday at the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca which resulted in charges against four prisoners.

Charges are also expected in relation to the findings at the Port of Spain Prison.
