The Police Commissioner says corrupt officers are a minority but are being arrested and charged.

Commissioner Erla Christopher made this statement in a media release issued in response to the raising of the matter in the public domain.

The statement did not point to where the matter was raised, however Independent Senator Deoroop Teemul reportedly brought up the issue during budget debate in Parliament.

Commissioner Christopher said 36 officers were charged in 2022 stemming from 79 offences and 19 were charged to date in 2023 from 51 offences.

The Professional Standards Bureau is investigating 109 reports.

Commissioner Christopher urged members of the public who know of or have evidence regarding police corruption, to make a report to the PSB, 555 or 800-TIPS.
