Clarke Road, Queen’s Park players help save house from fire

Players from Clarke Road United and Queen’s Park Cricket Club teamed up today to help save a house from a bush fire.

103.1FM News spoke with an eyewitness who says the two teams were locked in battle at the Wilson Road Recreation Ground when smoke forced the umpires to pause the match.

The Fire Service was called, but was allegedly delayed in its response.

Upon noticing the fire drawing closer to a house in the vicinity, the players and umpires formed a bucket brigade to help keep the flames under control until a tender arrived.

A wooden shed attached to the house was reportedly damaged by the blaze.

Play was subsequently called off for the day, with the match to resume tomorrow.
