Chinmaya school robbed, Couva South MP criticizes ineffective SOE

Couva Police are investigating a robbery on the Chinmaya school compound early Tuesday morning.

103.1FM News spoke with School Administrator; Jaikaran Caanan who said bandits attacked security guards and accessed the school’s office around 1:30AM.

They went on to steal approximately $30,000 in laptops and cell phones.

He noted that while no religious artifacts were destroyed, the office and IT lab were vandalized and damages are estimated to be more than $20,000.

He said classes have resumed at the school and with efforts underway to strengthen security on the premises.

Meanwhile, Couva South MP Rudy Indarsingh believes that the current State of Emergency has not stopped criminals from robberies and murders.

He said the incident at the Chinmaya School was one of several in his constituency in the past few days, making particular reference to home invasions.

The MP harshly criticized the Government’s handling of crime during the current SOE and condemned the National Security Minister’s absence during this time.
