China, Canada, EU announce new countermeasures against US tariffs

As the trade wars continue against US tariffs, Canada, China and the European Union have announced new retaliatory measures.

Canada will impose a 25% tariff on certain vehicles and parts from the US, which the Finance Minister confirmed will take effect from tonight at midnight.

Meanwhile, China announced that it will increase its imposed tariffs on US goods from 34% to 84%, which will also take effect from midnight tonight.

This follows President Donald Trump’s 104% duties on Chinese goods that took effect earlier today.

In addition to the tariffs, China has added 12 American companies to an export control list, which means that products will require a license to leave the country, while six American companies have been added to an unreliable entity list.

Earlier today, the European Union also confirmed that effective April 15th, a 25% tariff will be imposed  on a range of imported US goods including almonds, soybeans, tobacco and yachts.

The tariffs will be imposed in three phases on April 15, May 16 and December 1 and according to a statement from the EU, these can be suspended at any time, should the US agree to a fair and balanced negotiated outcome.

The retaliatory moves comes against the 25% tariffs imposed by the US on steel and aluminum imports from the bloc.
