THA Chief Secretary Farley Augustine says Minority Leader Kelvon Morris has agreed to work together to address crime on the island.
This comes after Tobago this week recorded its 9th murder for 2024.
At a media briefing today, Mr Augustine described the emerging gun violence and crime on the island as “an invading lethal assault”.
He said collective action is needed, adding that the THA’s approach must be different from Trinidad’s.
Mr Augustine urged persons to report crimes and cases of illegal firearms, despite how difficult it may be.
He added that if action is not taken, crime and violence will become normalized in Tobago.
Mr Augustine also announced the reinstatement of the Tobago Community Safety Programme, which will deliver several projects including the establishment of community services support secretariats in all community centres.
Another measure will be the registering of all unemployed persons.
Mr Augustine also revealed that the legal review for the establishment of THA Police is now complete, clearing the path for its implementation.
He added that collaboration will continue with the Police Commissioner to ensure an operational presence for key specialized units on the island.
