A Penal farmer is hoping for assistance to address a threat to his chicken business.
Last week, Anthony Cornwall was visited by armed men in black, unmarked SUVs.
They allegedly threatened to demolish his farm if he did not pay the owner of the land, said to be a state company.
Couva North MP Ravi Ratiram says he has reached out to the company on Mr Cornwall’s behalf, but is yet to receive a response.
Meanwhile, Mr Cornwall told 103.1FM News that officials from the Agriculture Ministry visited the farm yesterday and were pleased with the state of the premises and health of the chickens, which are being reared for eggs.
He says he just wants the matter resolved so that he can continue with his business, which builds on the farming work done by his father on the same land in the years before.
Mr Ratiram says it is important that the matter be addressed so the farm can continue its essential operations.
He adds, “The current situation is unacceptable. The government must implement clear, supportive policies that prioritize the needs of local farmers and stabilize our food supply.”
Attempts to contact Agriculture Minister Kazim Hosein on the matter have been unsuccessful.
