Shootings and other crimes in western Jamaica are creating fears from tourism stakeholders, as it is in the epicentre of the island’s tourism product.

A shooting incident in Negril on Tuesday was worrisome, according to one tourism professional, as its an area heavily trafficked by visitors.

There’s now a call for greater military presence on the ground in Negril, because previously when soldiers were brought in, crime dipped and residents felt safer.

In Guyana, the President has touted plans to restart large-scale production of coffee and other high-valued crops like breadfruit.

In Region One, Dr. Irfaan Ali told residents that 10,000 Liberica and Arabica coffee plants, as well as 5000 breadfruit trees will be planted there.

He says these crops will not only help satisfy local demand, but also supply markets in the region.
