CAL seeks Labour Ministry intervention in pilots negotiations

Caribbean Airlines has sought the Labour Ministry’s intervention in its negotiations with the T&T Airline Pilots Association.

In a media release, CAL says it engaged the union on November 22nd, 2023 regarding talks on the collective agreement for the period September 1st 2015 to August 31st 2018.

However, the airline says it reported the matter to the Labour Ministry after what it called “challenges faced in reaching a mutually agreeable resolution.”

In August this year, the Industrial Court issued an injunction against the union, preventing pilots from taking industrial action.

This had followed an incident where dozens of pilots called in sick, forcing the cancellation of domestic and international flights from the Piarco International Airport.

When the incident occurred, the union issued a statement saying it was “unaware of any strike action being taken by the pilot body.”

CAL is hoping that the intervention of the Labour Ministry will lead to an early resolution of negotiations.
