Cabinet appoints a former ACP as new SSA permanent director

Arthur Barrington, a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police has been appointed as the new Permanent Director of the Strategic Services Agency.

Prime Minister Stuart Young made the announcement at today’s post cabinet briefing, adding that the former Head of Special Branch and Intelligence will bring a level of stability to the Agency.

Mr Barrington will formally assume the role on April 1st when the tenure of current Acting Director Phillip Spencer comes to an end.

Mr Young also confirmed that Brigadier Spencer will return to the US as the Ambassador to Washington D.C.

Brigadier Spencer has been acting in the role following the removal of former SSA director Roger Best as investigations and audits were launched into SSA operations.
