The Baking Room has issued an apology and says steps are being taken, following an incident in which a customer reported live maggots in a beef pie.

The shocking discovery was highlighted in a Facebook live by former Minister Christlyn Moore, who purchased the pie yesterday.

In a statement shared on social media, the bakery said it was working closely with suppliers and staff to identify the source of the contamination.

It says several other steps have also been taken, including removal of all meat pastries and other potentially affected products, enhanced inspections and sanitization, a review of its supply chain, and additional training for staff on food safety and customer service policies.

Regarding the incident itself, the bakery was apologetic and expressed shock, insisting that this was “the first isolated incident of this nature in our history.”
