Bail for 2 charged with ‘taxing” businessperson

Two men from Kelly Village have appeared in court charged with trying to “tax” a businessperson.

52-year-old Junior Prince and 36-year-old Keston Looknanan were granted $90,000 bail each and are due to reappear on October 2nd.

The TTPS says in July 2023, the victim was threatened with injury and arson if they did not make a payment of $100,000.

A sum of money was paid, however demands for a monthly protection “tax” were then made.

A report was made and following extensive investigations, the suspects were arrested and charged with demanding money by menace (extortion).

Senior Superintendent Simon, ASP Dipchand and Inspector Sylvan supervised the investigation, which was conducted by Cpl. Phillips, together with Sgt. Cielto and members of the Central Division Gang Unit.

Persons facing similar threats are also being urged to file a report with the police.
