Army truck sent to assist persons stranded by floods in Penal

Flooding in Penal has cut off access to a number of areas.

According to Chairman of the Penal Debe Regional Corporation Gowtam Maharaj, the situation has resulted in assistance being sent by the army.

When 103.1FM News spoke with him a short while ago, he said efforts are currently focused on assisting stranded persons.

Mr Maharaj estimates that several thousand were impacted in some way by today’s flooding in the area.

Also affected were parts of Siparia.

103.1FM News also spoke with Mayor Doodnath Mayrhoo, who says while things have settled a little, they are bracing for what may yet come.

There were also reports of damage caused by high winds in Sangre Grande, however these have not yet been confirmed.

103.1FM News spoke with Vice-Chairman of the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation, Nasser Hosein, who says they are yet to receive such reports.

He adds that while the weather has settled for the while, the DMU remains alert at this time.
