Another Dengue death reported

An additional Dengue death is being reported, taking the number of lab confirmed fatalities to 13.

Lab confirmed cases have also increased, with 1,315 being reported today by the Health Ministry.

Dengue Fever may be spread by the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti mosquito, with symptoms appearing within 5-6 days of being bitten.

These include: fever, headaches, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pains, skin rash, nausea/vomiting and diarrhoea.

Persons with symptoms are advised to seek medical attention.

The Ministry adds that persons with symptoms should not use aspirin, motrin, cataflam, olfen or ibuprofen, as these can cause bleeding which leads to shock.

They are instead advised to use paracetamol, acetaminophen (Panadol/Tylenol) or medicines prescribed by a doctor.

Meanwhile, as at September 5th 2024, a total of 914 yellow fever notices have been issued to property owners/occupiers, directing them to clean up their surroundings.

The Ministry says of these, 43 have so far been identified for the consideration or institution of legal proceedings for non-compliance.
