AMCHAM has welcomed incentives outlined in the 2023/24 National Budget, but has raised the matter of the National Statistical Institute.
In a media release, the Chamber acknowledges the incentives for the non-energy sector and what it says is a consistent philosophy to protect the most vulnerable in society.
However, regarding the implementation of the National Statistical Institute, AMCHAM is concerned that a firm timeline was not given.
The organization says the NSI has featured in previous budgets but is yet to come to fruition.
It believes the establishment and operationalisation of the institute is necessary if the Government is serious about using data to effectively design and implement policy.
Meanwhile, AMCHAM says it too supports the increase in minimum wage and looks forward to the reduction of bureaucracy to help SMEs grow and be able to sustain the increase.
