The increase in the bird population at Rahamut Trace in Woodland is due to a low water table and an abundance of food sources.
This is according to the Agriculture Ministry which says the Forestry Division has been investigating and patrol the area on a daily basis.
Recently, the T&T Guardian reported on the situation, saying that the area had become a feeding ground for birds like the Scarlet Ibis, Heron and Great Egret.
The Ministry describes this as a “temporary migration” also prompted by heightened safety measures.
It noted that during disasters like wildfires, animals lose food sources and tend to be found in unexpected locations as they search for resources and refuge.
As such, it is urging people to refrain from starting bushfires as it can cause harm not only to humans but also to wildlife.
