The University of the West Indies St Augustine has announced the start of academic programming at its South Campus beginning August 2025.
The South Campus was used during the COVID-19 pandemic and since being returned to The University, extensive repairs and security upgrades have been carried out.
It says over the past two years a comprehensive review was done on operations, recalibrating and systematically implementing the South Campus’s focus and key goals.
The Campus will be the home of the newly launched Global School of Medicine, to serve primarily international students pursuing the Doctor of Medicine programme.
UWI says a full, sophisticated IT network has been established, complete with state of the art ‘smart’ classrooms.
It adds that the GSM, together with the Couva Training Facility linked to the Couva Hospital forms “part of an exciting initiative to develop a South/ Central–North medical artery of services, creating a specialized hub of excellence in medicine, innovation and medical research”.
The South Campus will also host several other traditional programmes from various faculties, such as the Faculty of Science and Technology, the Faculty of Food and Agriculture, the Faculty of Humanities and Education and the FMS in blended formats.
Additionally, a rental agreement has been signed enabling The UWI Roytec School to share the premises and upscale its offerings.
