Police have seized 600 rounds of 5.56 Israeli type ammunition in Couva.
The find was made yesterday in an empty lot at Caroni Road, Old Southern Main Road.
Speaking on the matter at today’s TTPS briefing was ACP Richard Smith, who clarified that there were no Defence Force or Police Service markings on the bullets.
He also declined to comment on the recent incident of missing Defence Force ammunition, stating only that an investigation will take place once an official report is made.
Meanwhile, when questioned about police accountability for their stock of weapons and ammunition, Acting Police Commissioner Junior Benjamin said an audit was done just last year.
