Five students were taken for medical attention this morning following a stabbing incident at the Palo Seco Secondary School.
This was confirmed by the Education Ministry, who has also dismissed rumours that a student was killed.
It says there is no indication that any student is critically injured at this time.
The Education Minister is awaiting a full report as investigations are ongoing.
Today’s incident has since led to a call for policies to curb school violence.
Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal says such measures are critical for effective safety and security measures.
He also called on Government to reintroduce the schools’ security programme implemented under the People’s Partnership, saying it allowed school authorities to work in tandem with the Police Service and included life-skills coaching, abuse counselling, self-regulation and conflict management.
