$3.5m in marijuana seized

Police have seized $3.5 million worth of marijuana.

Around 9:33am yesterday, officers observed a blue Toyota Fielder wagon speeding and dangerously overtaking traffic along the Southern Main Road in Guapo, Point Fortin.

The vehicle was intercepted near the Guapo landfill and inside they found six crocus bags containing 270 blocks of marijuana weighing 147.5 kilograms.

Two persons, a 40-year-old taxi driver and a 41-year-old farmer, were arrested for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Meanwhile, around 2am today in the Central Division, a joint team executed a search warrant for firearms and ammunition at a residence on Singh Ave, Factory Road, Chaguanas.

During the search, officers went to a downstairs room where they found two hydroponic tents.

Upon further examination, they also found 68 marijuana plants, 48 seedlings, fertilizers, garden tools, and a professional hydroponic system complete with lights and fans.

One man was detained.
