Hayley Matthews has led the Barbados Royals to the 2023 Women’s Caribbean Premier League title.
The captain made 82 from 59 balls as Royals put 169/7 on the board batting first against Guyana Amazon Warriors at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
Shabnim Ismail took four wickets and effected a football styled runout for Guyana while Shreyanka Patil took one wicket to end as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with nine in five innings.
Then, Matthews was at it again, taking 2/38 to help restrict Guyana to 161/8 in their chase – defeat by eight runs despite Shemaine Campbelle’s valiant 47 from 35 balls.
Amanda-Jade Wellington took 4/23 with her legspin for Barbados.
Speaking after the win, Matthews said the victory feels like redemption after losing to TKR in last year’s final at Warner Park, St Kitts.
