At least 15 people were killed in the Dominican Republic when the roof of a nightclub caved in early Tuesday morning.

The roof of the Jet Set nightclub in the country’s capital of Santo Domingo fell during a performance by popular merengue singer Rubby Perez.

The Emergency Operations Centre Director confirmed the deaths and expressed hope for finding more persons alive, adding that recovery and rescue operations will continue until everyone is retrieved from the rubble.

In a post via X, President Luis Abinader wrote that all rescue agencies were “working tirelessly” to help those affected and also visited the site as rescue work continued.
