The Ministry of Tourism, Culture & the Arts says an estimated $120 million in funding has been identified for construction of the proposed Pan Trinbago Headquarters on Wrightson Road.
In a statement it says, “The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, in consultation with the Ministry of Finance,
has identified funding of an estimated one hundred and twenty million dollars ($120, 000,000.00) over the projected period for construction of the Headquarters, to start with an allocation to be determined in Fiscal Year 2025/2026.”
According to the Ministry, the proposed headquarters will be a six storey Class-A mixed-use building.
It will contain office space for Pan Trinbago, the Ministry, Tourism Trinidad Limited, and the National Carnival Commission; as well as a 300 seat Theatre/Auditorium; a Pan Museum & Interpretive Centre; Conference & Meeting Rooms; a Rooftop Entertainment Area; Gift Shop; Cafeteria; and Parking Facilities.
The Theatre/Auditorium, Pan Museum, Gift Shop, Rooftop and Cafeteria will earn additional revenue for Pan Trinbago.
The Ministry says it is proposed that State entities housed at the building will not be required to pay rent for a period of up to 50 years, but rather, maintenance and other related common fees as negotiated by the respective parties.
The land identified on Wrightson Road is the General Post Office site and is approximately 44,347 square feet.
The Ministry says the existing building will be demolished, with Pan Trinbago to be the subsequent owner of this land and the property to be constructed.
There will also be the establishment of a Special Purpose Company responsible for administration, maintenance, rental, and other logistical tasks relative to the building’s use.
The Ministry says, “…the existing building on the site is deemed not suitable for the proposed accommodations and will be demolished. Pan Trinbago will therefore be the owner of this land and the property to be constructed thereon and will establish a Special Purpose Company responsible for administration, maintenance, rental, and other logistical tasks relative to the building’s use.”
