100 Volunteer Defence Force members have been called out by the President to support police over a 123-day period.
The official proclamation from her Excellency Christine Kangaloo says the move is to strengthen the Defence Force’s capability to help police during the pre-Christmas season into Carnival 2024.
It came into effect yesterday and runs until February 29th next year.
This move however is being questioned by former Police Commissioner Gary Griffith.
Mr Griffith says in March this year, the Chief of Defence Staff publicly stated that Defence Force personnel are not trained to assist police in their duties.
He says if this position is correct, it would mean the 100 volunteers are also not trained to assist the TTPS.
Mr Griffith adds that while he disagrees with the statement, the National Security Minister should clarify the details of the arrangement.
