CARICOM convenes emergency meeting on Haiti

Leaders and envoys were today summoned to an emergency summit on the crisis in Haiti.

The meeting was convened by CARICOM in Kingston, Jamaica as more foreign diplomats were evacuated from Haiti, including European Union staff and all non-essential US personnel.

Gangs are attempting to wrest control from the Prime Minister, causing further chaos.

In a statement confirming the meeting, Jamaica’s President Andrew Holness said it will seek to advance discussions on support for Haiti, as well as the way forward for Haitian governance.

He adds that the meeting will be the latest in a series of facilitation efforts by the bloc to advance political dialogue and consensus in Haiti.

Among those in attendance was US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
