TTPS: recourse for women who are heckled or harassed on the road

Police say there is recourse for women who are being heckled or harassed on the road.

Ahead of International Women’s Day, 103.1FM News spoke with Dr Radica Mahase of Support Autism T&T who said heckling has been shown by research to lead to abusive behaviour.

ASP Christopher Aroon of the TTPS’ Special Victims Unit says such behavior can be classified as harassment under law.

Also speaking to 103.1FM was Woman Corporal Guerra, who says convicted offenders face penalties such as fines and jail time.

W/Cpl Guerra is also urging women to make reports and not write heckling off as a minor issue, as there’s no telling how far things can go.
