UNRWA Head warns of “looming famine” in northern Gaza

The Head of the UN Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) is warning of a “looming famine” in northern Gaza.

According to Al Jazeera, Philippe Lazzarini on Sunday said that humanitarian aid has not reached people in the enclave’s north for more than a month.

Aid agencies claim that Israel has been delaying deliveries, an accusation Tel Aviv denies.

Al Jazeera reports that, according to figures from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, at least 500,000 people are facing famine.

It adds that nearly the entire population of Gaza, 2.3 million people, is experiencing acute food shortage.
