Ceasefire deal reportedly being mulled by Israel

Israel’s war cabinet has reportedly been briefed on talks over a ceasefire deal in Gaza.

BBC News says this comes after reports of progress made in talks in Paris on Saturday.

It also comes as police broke up protests in Tel Aviv calling for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s resignation.

The Paris talks are part of negotiations aimed at securing a ceasefire and the return of hostages.

The deal would also see the release of Palestinian prisoners being held in Israel.

Meanwhile, according to the Associated Press, Mr Netanyahu has said that an Israeli military offensive in Gazas southernmost city of Rafah could be “delayed somewhat” if a deal is reached for a weekslong ceasefire.

He also allegedly claimed that total victory in the territory would come within weeks once the offensive begins.

Located on the GazaEgypt border, Rafah is where more than half the besieged territorys population of 2.3 million have sought refuge.

Humanitarian groups also warn of a catastrophe, as Rafah is Gazas main entry point for aid.
