Following the discovery of cocaine at Cove Beach, THA Chief Secretary Farley Augustine says the situation is becoming “more and more curious”.
There has been speculation that it came from the vessel currently spilling oil in Tobago’s waters, however the authorities have not issued any public comment to confirm or deny.
At a media conference today, Mr Augustine was asked his thoughts on the discovery, and while he did not want to speculate, he had this to say.
The Chief Secretary however says he believes the release of the info could have been handled differently, since it may now complicate efforts to track down the vessel’s owner.
As for efforts to deal with the oil spill, Mr Augustine says they are “valiant and robust” and continue to focus on containment and cleanup.
Mr Augustine says the situation remains at Tier 2, as the National Oil Spill Contingency Plan that outlines what steps should be taken before it gets to Tier 3.
Today, the Chief Secretary led the media on a tour of sites affected by the spill, from the Scarborough Lay-by to Cove, which is the site of the overturned vessel.
