A Rio Claro man has been sentenced to five months in jail with hard labour, after pleading guilty to robbing an elderly woman at a church.
On January 30th 2024, a 70-year-old woman reported to police that she was assaulted and robbed while at sitting outside the church where she worked as a clerk.
The suspect, who was armed with a cutlass, stole her purse containing cash, other personal items and two cell-phones.
After his arrest, 37-year-old Kevin Prime appeared before Master Shabiki Cazabon at the High Court in Rio Claro on February 14th charged with robbery with aggravation.
According to the TTPS, Prime also pleaded guilty to two reports of sacrilege at the same church and is expected to reappear on March 15th for sentencing.
The offences are reported to have been committed sometime between February 6th and 7th 2024 and February 8th and 9th 2024.
In the first incident, a priest discovered the church broken into, with a fan and one week’s collection of cash from the offering box missing.
In the second incident, the priest again discovered the church broken into, with two microphones and their cables missing
