Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar believes T&T must call for an end to what she says is a genocide in Gaza.

In a statement, she said while there can be no defence for Hamas launching the attack on October 7th 2023 that killed 1,200 Israelis, the killing of innocent Palestinians in retaliation is “an atrocity”.

She is calling on the Government to leverage Trinidad and Tobago’s current presidency of the United Nations to inspire discussions to end the genocide of residents of Gaza.

She also said while T&T is a small island State, a resolute approach in collaboration with international partners and the leadership of Mr Dennis Francis at the UN could stir further international action and possibly result in an end to the military activity.

Mr Francis, T&T’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, is currently serving as President of the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly.
