Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley says he received assurances in Washington DC that the Dragon Gas deal will not be impacted by the re-imposition of US sanctions on Venezuela.
In October 2023, the US issued General Licence 44, providing sanctions relief to Venezuela’s oil and gas sector.
Following recent political developments, the US recently announced that it will not renew the licence when it expires on April 18th 2024.
During a media conference this morning, Dr Rowley clarified that the Dragon deal was not made under General Licence 44.
Dr Rowley recently returned from a working trip to the US.
He says after Carnival, he will head to Guyana where he is due to participate in an energy conference and a CARICOM meeting.
After that he will go on vacation, and then towards the end of April, he is due to leave for a medical assessment.
