Police Commissioner Erla Christopher says additional staff have been deployed to expedite the payment of outstanding backpay to officers.
This assurance comes after comments made yesterday by Police Social and Welfare Association President Gideon Dickson, that only 48% of regular officers have received their backpay to date.
Mr Dickson said this was “not healthy going into the Carnival period”.
In a statement, the Top Cop sought to address this issue, adding that efforts were also underway to address promotion disputes.
As for the possibility of some police officers calling in sick for Carnival duties, Commissioner Christopher said they were actively addressing concerns and “taking proactive measures to ensure the smooth operation of Carnival festivities”.
She also assured that the TTPS will be out in full force to maintain law and order, protect citizens and visitors, and ensure a festive atmosphere conducive to enjoyment and celebration.
