Two fire officers were injured while battling a blaze in Belmont this morning.
Shortly after midnight, officers from the Belmont Sub-Station and Fire Service Headquarters on Wrightson Road responded to reports of a fire at Observatory Street.
The TTFS says around 1:30am, there was a malfunction of the boom of the Skylift being used, which led to the equipment losing stability.
There were two officers in the basket at the time: one suffered a fractured left leg whilst the other sustained chest injuries.
Both are continuing to receive medical care at the Port of Spain General Hospital.
The TTFS says the safety and welfare of officers is a priority, sentiments that it says were reflected by the executive of the TTFS to the officers on duty at both stations.
It adds that arrangements have been put in place with professionals to address the officers’ traumatic experience.
