A court has dismissed a challenge to the extension of the term of office of Police Commissioner Erla Christopher.
The Top Cop’s tenure was extended for one year with effect from May 15th, 2023, prompting a legal challenge from Ravi Balgobin-Maharaj.
However, the Office of the Attorney General says on Tuesday the court dismissed all of the Claimant’s arguments.
It also ordered him to pay the costs of the two Defendants, as well as the costs of the Police Service Commission as an Interested Party.
The AG’s Office says, “The Judgment is confirmatory of this Government’s continued highest respect for the Constitution, the provisions relating to the separation of powers.”
