The Scrap Iron Dealers Association says while it cannot guarantee that the theft of copper will stop, it will take a zero tolerance approach to the issue with its members.

That assurance came today from Association President Allan Ferguson, following a meeting with officials from the Trade Ministry.

The Association said today’s meeting was to discuss the reopening of the exportation of copper and other challenges facing the scrap iron industry due to the new legislation.

A particular issue pertains to applications for scrap iron licenses.

The Association says while the talks were productive, certain issues need to be further discussed to move forward.
