Judge sets aside $20m judgement to ex-accused in Vindra Naipaul-Coolman case

A High Court Judge has set aside a multi-million dollar judgment awarded to nine men formerly accused in the Vindra Naipaul-Coolman case.

The men were awarded $20 million in damages following a default judgement in January 2021, after the Attorney General’s office failed to defend the case.

A statement from the AG’s Office says Justice Joan Charles this morning ordered that the default judgement and award of damages be set aside, since the proceedings had not been properly served on the Attorney General in accordance with procedure.

The decision reportedly means the case will now have to go to trial before Justice Charles.
