Guyana’s President has contacted the United Nations amid an announcement of steps to be taken by Venezuela after Sunday’s referendum on Essequibo.

According to a report by Stabroek News, Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro yesterday revealed a series of steps, including handing out exploration licences.

It adds that Guyana President Irfaan Ali has reached out to the UN Secretary General and the army is on full alert.

This move by Venezuela is despite an International Court of Justice ruling which provided provisional measures to prevent any action by Venezuela that could lead to the annexation of Guyana’s territory.
