Work Minister responds to questions about new Point Fortin Highway

A process has been initiated by the Works Ministry’s Traffic Management Unit to assess a part of the new Point Fortin Highway.

The spot near the Guapo Roundabout was where radio DJ Clyde Jemmott, also known as Clyde the Outlaw, died in an accident on Sunday.

In a social media post today, Jemmott’s employer Tony Chow Lin On raised concerns about that part of the highway, questioning if others had died at the same spot and whether there are design issues.

Speaking to 103.1FM News, Works Minister Rohan Sinanan said any time an accident of this nature occurs the Traffic Management Unit visits the site to see if any improvements can be made.

However, he insisted that there are ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure, including a road audit in collaboration with the IDB.

Furthermore, he said T&T achieved a reduction in road traffic accidents in 2020 but, due to a “slight increase” recently, other measures have been sought and are being incorporated.
