BBC says ‘Top Gear’ will not return for “foreseeable future”

‘Top Gear’ will not return “for the foreseeable future” after presenter Andrew Flintoff was hurt while filming last year.

In a statement, the BBC said it has “decided to rest the UK show”.

Flintoff, a former England cricketer,  suffered “life-altering significant” injuries in a crash in December at a test track at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey.

The 34th series was subsequently halted, with an apology issued by the BBC.

In a statement, BBC said, “We know resting the show will be disappointing news for fans, but it is the right thing to do. All other Top Gear activity remains unaffected by this hiatus including international formats, digital, magazines and licensing.”

Flintoff joined BBC One’s ‘Top Gear’ as a host in 2019 alongside Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris.

The programme focused on motor vehicle reviews, and saw the presenters participating in motoring-based challenges, special races, and timed laps of notable cars.
