The World Bank has started a series of meetings with the Social Development Ministry in a bid to create a more accountable approach to social protection grants.
In a media release, the Ministry says the first meeting was held on November 6th in collaboration with the Finance Ministry.
The meetings form part of the Finance Ministry’s aim to engage the World Bank Group for fee-based services for the provision of a Social Protection Expenditure Review, and Error and Fraud Assessment.
The areas the meetings seek to improve are:
• Evaluating whether the programmes are following programme rules around eligibility
• Understanding potential risks
• Examining the lifecycle of a claim;
• Additional measures to be undertaken by the Ministry to prevent wrongful claims and deter such actions
