Arima Mayor Balliram Maharaj says he has been informed of severe problems with the distribution of water to parts of his borough.
In a statement, Mr Maharaj said he recently consulted with Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales, who attributed the issue to a shortfall in production by the Hollis Reservoir.
The mayor said he was told that WASA had begun accessing water from Guanapo and Aripo to supplement the shortfall, with more contractors also being engaged to assist with a truck-borne supply.
The statement also reportedly revealed that drilling had begun on three wells in Aripo to offer further relief.
Mayor Maharaj said he was thankful for the Minister’s intervention in trying to resolve the acute water shortage in Arima.
