The UWI St Augustine Guild Council says it is disappointed that students are being used as collateral in ongoing wage negotiations.
Recently, the West Indies Group of University Teachers (WIGUT) threatened to withhold exam papers, as it rejected a 2% salary increase proposal from the Government.
The Guild says while it has met with WIGUT twice in a bid to mitigate the impact on the student body, those efforts were futile as the union persisted with its action.
It adds that while it empathizes with the lecturers, students should not be leveraged in broader discussions.
The Guild is now calling for a swift resolution to this issue, which it believes has persisted for an unacceptable time.
