Shots fired at HDC workers during eviction exercise

Shot were fired at HDC workers carrying out an eviction exercise in Tarodale Gardens yesterday.

The Corporation says it received reports that a tenant, who was previously evicted for arrears on October 12th 2023, had re-entered the property.

The man was allegedly informed that he was in breach of the Trespassing Act and would be allowed to vacate the premises.

However, the HDC says neighbours began to threaten the workers which soon escalated to shots being fired in their direction.

No one was hurt, and an investigation is now underway to apprehend the suspect.

The tenant was also subsequently removed from the unit with the assistance of the Police Service, while two other tenants were evicted for owing thousands of dollars in arrears.

One person was also arrested for using obscene language, while an assessment of the property will be completed to determine if there was any structural damage to the building.

The HDC says it “vehemently rebukes” such actions at its developments and is advising tenants who have been evicted to refrain from trespassing.

It adds that those in arrears should make payments to prevent such actions as they are given final notices and informed of the HDC’s planned arrival before the date of eviction to allow them to relocate.
